Origin of Human

Creation Story of Bible and Quran

The following are description of how humans came to exist on earth.

The Bible claims that the first couple Adam and Eve were created and placed in a garden called ‘Garden of Eden’. To this date no one has been able to locate the exact location of the garden by its longitude and latitude coordinates. Jews locate it near Israel, Arabs locate it near Mecca. Black preachers locate it in East Africa, the rest place it in Iraq or Mesopotamia. The garden had to be a small one for the man to take care of by himself because he did not have any gardening tools such as weed-eater, hoes, machette, lawn mower, shrub cutter, pick axe, rake etc. for a big garden that stretched from Iraq to Israel.

Now consider what it says about the man in the Bible:

Genesis 1 – KJV

In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.

And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.

And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.

And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.

10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.

11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.

13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.

14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.

16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.

19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.

20 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.

21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.

23 And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.

24 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.

25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.

26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.

31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.

This story claims that the whole universe was created in six days of 24 hours.

Creation of woman

“The man gave names to all the cattle, and to the birds of the sky, and to every beast of the field, but for Adam there was not found a helper suitable for him. So the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs and closed up the flesh at that place. The LORD God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man and brought her to the man. The man said, ‘This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh; She shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.’ For this reason a man shall leave his father and his mother, and be joined to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.” Genesis 2:18-25

God created a woman from the bare bone, rib, of a man. Why did ‘he’ take a bone from the man to create woman when he did not do that with female chimpanzees, cats, dogs, elephants, birds and any of the million species of animals who were created before Eve? Was this written this by men who did not believe women were equal to men, were inferior?

Creation Story in Quran

The following talks about the man Adam in the Quranic version of the story and gives information of the size of the universe, and the timeline of creation which are both contradictory and hard to believe:

“According to the following texts, Allah created the earth and its provisions before he created the heavens:

He it is Who created for you ALL THAT IS ON EARTH. THEN (Thumma) He Istawa (rose over) towards the heaven and made them seven heavens and He is the All-Knower of everything. S. 2:29

Say (O Muhammad): “Do you verily disbelieve in Him Who created the earth in two Days and you set up rivals (in worship) with Him? That is the Lord of the ‘Alamin (mankind, jinns and all that exists). He placed therein (i.e. the earth) firm mountains from above it, and He blessed it, and measured therein its sustenance (for its dwellers) in four Days equal (i.e. all these four ‘days’ were equal in the length of time), for all those who ask (about its creation). THEN (Thumma) He Istawa (rose over) towards the heaven WHEN IT WAS SMOKE, and said to it and to the earth: “Come both of you willingly or unwillingly.” They both said: “We come, willingly.” Then He completed and finished from their creation (as) seven heavens in two Days and He made in each heaven its affair. And We adorned the nearest (lowest) heaven with lamps (stars) to be an adornment as well as to guard (from the devils by using them as missiles against the devils). Such is the Decree of Him the All-Mighty, the All-Knower. S. 41:9-12 Hilali-Khan

So according to the foregoing Allah created the cosmos in the following sequence:

  1. Allah first created the earth in two days (Q. 41:9). This is the view of noted Muslim commentators such as Ibn Kathir:

(Who created the heavens and the earth in Six Days) (7:54), is explained in more detail; the creation of the earth and the creation of the heaven are discussed separately. Allah says that He created the earth FIRST, because it is the foundation, and the foundation SHOULD BE BUILT FIRST, then the roof. Allah says elsewhere…” (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, Q. 41:10; bold and capital emphasis ours)

  1. He created the mountains and the earth’s sustenance in 4 days (Q. 41:10).
  2. Allah then turned to the heaven when it was still smoke and proceeded to fashion it into seven heavens and created the stars in 2 days (Q. 41:11-12).

Needless to say, this depiction of the origins of the cosmos does not agree with modern scientific theories and discoveries. If the Quran was scientifically accurate then the order of Q. 41:9-12 should have been:

  1. Allah turned to the heaven when it was still smoke and turned it into seven heavens.
  2. Allah created the lamps which govern the lower heavens (which is another gross mistake).
  3. Allah then created the earth and all its nourishments.

But it gets worse for Williams since the Quran not only contradicts modern scientific theories it even contradicts itself!

According to the following passage Allah actually created the heavens first!

Are you more difficult to create, or is the heaven that He constructed? He raised its height, and He has equally ordered it, Its night He covers with darkness, and its forenoon He brings out (with light). AND AFTER THAT (bad’a) He spread the earth; And brought forth therefrom its water and its pasture; And the mountains He has fixed firmly; (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. S. 79:27-33 Hilali-Khan

Here is the order of creation according to this text:

  1. Allah created the heavens first.
  2. Afterwards Allah decided to spread the earth and create all of its provisions.

Yet the problems are not over for Williams since we not only have the Quran contradicting itself, we even find the sunna of Muhammad contradicting the Muslim scripture as well!

Notice what the following narration says concerning the order of creation:

Abu Huraira reported that Allah’s Messenger took hold of my hands and said: Allah, the Exalted and Glorious, created the clay on Saturday and He created the mountains on Sunday and He created the trees on Monday and He created the things entailing labour on Tuesday and created light on Wednesday and lie caused the animals to spread on Thursday and created Adam after ‘Asr on Friday; the last creation at the last hour of the hours of Friday, i.e. between afternoon and night. (Sahih Muslim, Book 39, Number 6707; *)

This tradition is also cited in the Miskhat along with some other fantastic stories about creation:

He said: God’s messenger took me by the hand and said, “God created the earth on Saturday, created the mountains in it on Sunday, created the trees on Monday, created what is objectionable on Tuesday, created the light on Wednesday, sent forth animals in the earth on Thursday, and created Adam in the late afternoon on Friday, at the end of the creation and at the last hour of the day between the afternoon and the night.” Muslim transmitted it.

He told that while God’s prophet and his companions were sitting clouds came over them and God’s prophet asked, “Do you know what these are?” On their replying that God and His messenger knew best, he said, “These are the clouds (‘anam), these are the water-carriers of the earth which God drives to people who do not thank Him or call upon Him.” He then asked, “Do you know what is above you?” On their replying that God and His messenger knew best, he said,It is the firmament, a ceiling which is guarded and waves which are kept back.” He then asked, “Do you know what is between you and it?” On their replying that God and His messenger knew best, he said, “Between you and it are five hundred years.” He then asked, “Do you know what is above that?” On their replying that God and His messenger knew best, he said, “Two heavens with a distance of five hundred years between them.” He went on speaking like that till he counted seven heavens, the distance between each pair being like that between the heaven and the earth. He then asked, “Do you know what is above that?” On their replying that God and His messenger knew best, he said, “Above that is the Throne, and the distance between it and the [seventh] heaven is the same as that between each pair of heavens.” He then asked, “Do you know what is below you?” On their replying that God and His messenger knew best, he said, “It is the earth.” He then asked, “Do you know what is under that?” On their replying that God and His messenger knew best, he said, “Under it there is another earth with a journey of five hundred years between them,” and so on till he had counted seven earths with a journey of five hundred years between each pair. He then said, “By Him in whose hand Muhammad’s soul is, if you were to drop a rope to the lowest earth it would not pass out of God’s knowledge.”1 He then recited, “He is the First and the Last, the Outward and Inward, and He is omniscient.” Ahmad and Tirmidhi transmitted it, Tirmidhi saying that God’s messenger’s recitation of the verse indicates that it would go down within God’s knowledge, power and authority, for God’s knowledge, power and authority are everywhere, while He is on the Throne, as He described Himself in His Book.”

Quranic Mythology on Creation of Adam

He reported God’s messenger as saying, “Adam was sixty cubits tall and seven cubits broad.”(Mishkat Al Masabih, English Translation With Explanatory Notes By Dr. James Robson [Sh. Muhammad Ashraf Publishers, Booksellers & Exporters, Lahore, Pakistan, Reprinted 1994], Volume II, Book XXVI – Fitan, Chapter XVII. The Beginning of Creation and Mention of the Prophets, pp. 1227-1229; bold emphasis ours)

“Note Adam’s height according to Quran was sixty cubits.

The actual length of a cubit varied between different ancient groups of people. Here are some samples from Egypt, Babylon, and ancient Israel: Hebrew. 17.5 in. Egyptian. 17.6 in. Babylonian Long19.8 in. Hebrew Long.

Using the Hebrew length of 18 inches for a cubit we get 18 inches multiplied by 60 which is 1080 inches or 90 feet.

The cubit is an ancient unit of length that had several definitions according to each of the various cultures that used the unit. These definitions typically ranged between 444 and 529.2 mm (17.48 and 20.83 in), with an ancient Roman cubit being as long as 120 cm (47 in). – Wikipaedia

Since Mohammed lived during the Roman period, he probably used the Roman measurement of a cubit of 47 inches instead of the Hebrew mAllah.easurement.

Adam could be 60 multiplied by 47 = 2,820 inches or 235 feet long

According to the Quran Adam’s height could be 90 feet to 235 feet when created by Allah.

These calculations would make Adam a giant. Gigantism is a physical disorder, and individuals who grow to excessive heights almost always struggle with heart and circulatory problems.

This creation story is a myth and cannot be taken seriously.” – Kwadwo Obeng

The Universe was created in Six Days

Allah states that He created the universe, the heavens and earth and all that is in, on and between them in six days, as He has stated in several Ayat in the Qur’an. These six days are: Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. On Friday, the entire creation was assembled and on that day, Adam was created. There is a difference of opinion whether these days were the same as our standard days as suddenly comes to the mind, or each day constitutes one thousand years, as reported from Mujahid, Imam Ahmad bin Hanbal, and from Ibn `Abbas according to Ad-Dahhak’s narration from him. As for Saturday, no creation took place in it since it is the seventh day of (of the week). The word ‘As-Sabt’ means stoppage, or break. Imam Ahmad recorded Abu Huraryah saying: Allah’s Messenger told me…

((Allah created the dust on Saturday, and He created the mountains on Sunday, and He created the trees on Monday, and He created the unpleasant things on Tuesday and He created the light on Wednesday and He spread the creatures through out it on Thursday and He created Adam after ‘Asr on between ‘Asr and the night.)) (Tafsir Ibn Kathir (Abridged) (Surat Al-A’raf to the end of Sura Yunus), First Edition: May 200, Volume 4, pp. 76-77)

Imam Ahmad is Ahmad ibn Hanbal, a Muslim scholar and hadith compiler who has a school of Islamic jurisprudence named in his honor. Ibn Kathir was obviously referring to his collection of hadiths known as Musnad Ahmad, as even the translators themselves point out:

Ahmad 2:327 and Muslim no. 2149. (Ibid., fn. 2, p. 77)

Thus, we have at least two renowned hadith scholars that transmitted this narrative!

Finally, one of Salafi Islam’s greatest hadith scholars al-Albani chided the Muslims who rejected this hadith on the grounds that it contradicts the Quran:

 Hadith 1833

“Allah created the soil on Saturday, then he created the mountains on Sunday, then he created the trees on Monday, then he created what is reprehensible on Tuesday, then he created the light on Wednesday, then he made the animals on Thursday, then he created Adam late afternoon (after Asr) of Friday as the last of creation at the last hour of Friday between Asr and night time.” Sahih.

This hadith does not differ with the Quran as some assume, review al-Mishkat # 5735, and the abridged copy of “The Height” by Al-Zahabi, Hadith # 71. Also, view the lengthy investigation in the book on page 664. Its summary is that the details in the hadith are different than the details in the Quran, and its days are different. In this case it is mandatory for scholars “to hug one another in lieu of beating each other.” (Shaikh al-Albani, The Complete Collection of the Sahih Hadith Series, Volume 4 (of 7 volumes))

The last sentence is an exhortation from Al-Albani who was frustrated that some from within the Islamic camp were questioning the tension between the Quranic account of creation and this particular hadith was urging Muslim scholars to work together, and not against each other, concerning this tension in order to find a way of reconciling these conflicting statements.”

Excerpted from an article: ‘Taking Another Look At The Quran’s Contradictory Creation Accounts’ by Sam Shamoun.

Verification of Creation Accounts in Bible and Quran

Based on the creative chronology, Allah created the soil on day 1, mountains on day 2, trees on day 3, light on day 5. According to explanation of ‘light’ elsewhere, it is supposed to represent the sun, moon, and stars.

The question is, what is the length of the creative day? Is it a literal 24-hour period? Since there was no sun on day 1, how did the writer determine the delineation between night and day until the sun was created on day 5?

If the sun did not appear on till day 5, then how did the trees, created on day 1, able to manufacture food using the process of photosynthesis which requires light from the sun?

Both accounts are not credible considering what we now know about the universe in astronomy, paleontology, anatomy, genetics, earth science, anthropology etc.

For example, astronomy teaches that the universe contains about 2 trillion galaxies. Each galaxy contains billions of stars. Our earth contains more than 2 billion stars.

Milky Way Galaxy

The distances between stars and between galaxies are measured in light years. A light year is determined as the distance that light travels in a year from one point to another at a speed of 186,000 miles per second. To get an idea of that distance, you have to use the following calculations:

365 days X 24 hours X 60 minutes X 60seconds multiplied by 186,000 = 5,865,696,000,000 miles

The closest star to our sun is Proxima Centauri and the distance between them is estimated to be 4.244 light-years.

Doing the math, 5,865,696,000,000 miles multiplied by 4.244 = 24,864,013,824,000 miles expressed in words 24 trillion, 864 billion, 13 million, 824 thousand.

If we started this journey from earth on January 1, 2021, we would reach Alpha Centauri on December 31, 2021 if and only if we can find a vehicle that can travel at the speed of light, 183,000 per second.

It has been determined that the edge of the visible universe is 14.0 billion parsecs (about 45.7 billion light-years) away from us. Conversely, the light from the edge of the universe, has taken 45.7 billion years to reach us in our solar system. Assuming there is nothing beyond the visible universe, we can conclude that the universe has been in existence for 45.7 billion years.

On the other hand, the Bible chronology states that the whole universe is only a little more than 6,000 years. This is determined by the genealogy outlined in the book of Genesis of the ancestors of Jews. Unfortunately, there is no physical proof such as bones of these patriots like Adam, Noah, Abraham available so we can use modern technology such as radio-metric dating to determine the real age of any of these men listed in the genealogy.

AGE OF THE EARTH

Did You know that the age of earth is 4.54 billion years means 454 crore years? Now you have a question in your mind that how did scientists calculate the age of the earth? So, let me tell you for your information, that from Radiometric Dating Technique (Radiometric dating or radioactive dating is a technique used to date materials such as rocks or carbon, in which trace radioactive impurities were selectively incorporated when they were formed. The method compares the abundance of a naturally occurring radioactive isotope within the material to the abundance of its decay products, which form at a known constant rate of decay.
The use of radiometric dating was first published in 1907 by Bertram Boltwood and is now the principal source of information about the absolute age of rocks and other geological features, including the age of fossilized life forms or the age of the Earth itself, and can also be used to date a wide range of natural and man-made materials), Scientists calculated the age of the earth. So, from this you would have been aware that the oldest stone that we got is 4.54 billion years old. So, that from this we get to know that the age of the Earth is 4.54 billion years.
Using all the other disciplines to verify the Biblical and Quranic accounts of creation, we must dismiss their claims for lack of evidence, and incredible. The stories are myths.

Consider the human anatomy and physiology of man and woman below and determine if all the organs can be designed and put together in 24 hours. All our organs must work together to make living and procreation possible.

Origin of humans

Origin of humans has to be explored from a different angle other than the Bible and Quran.
We have to research using tools of science. Science gives us various disciplines that are complex to help us to learn about life. We are still about life at the micro and macro levels, from dinosaurs to unicellular organisms and microbes. The is a theory that explains the origin of humanity.

The Theory of Evolution

Evolution is the process by which human beings developed on EarthTfrom now-extinct primates. Viewed zoologically, we humans are Homo sapiens, a culture-bearing upright-walking species that lives on the ground and very likely first evolved in Africa about 315,000 years ago. We are now the only living members of what many zoologists refer to as the human tribe, Hominini, but there is abundant fossil evidence to indicate that we were preceded for millions of years by other hominins, such as ArdipithecusAustralopithecus, and other species of Homo, and that our species also lived for a time contemporaneously with at least one other member of our genusH. neanderthalensis (the Neanderthals). In addition, we and our predecessors have always shared Earth with other apelike primates, from the modern-day gorilla to the long-extinct Dryopithecus. That we and the extinct hominins are somehow related and that we and the apes, both living and extinct, are also somehow related is accepted by anthropologists and biologists everywhere. Yet the exact nature of our evolutionary relationships has been the subject of debate and investigation since the great British naturalist Charles Darwin published his monumental books On the Origin of Species (1859) and The Descent of Man (1871). Darwin never claimed, as some of his Victorian contemporaries insisted he had, that “man was descended from the apes,” and modern scientists would view such a statement as a useless simplification—just as they would dismiss any popular notions that a certain extinct species is the “missing link” between humans and the apes. There is theoretically, however, a common ancestor that existed millions of years ago. This ancestral species does not constitute a “missing link” along a lineage but rather a node for divergence into separate lineages. This ancient primate has not been identified and may never be known with certainty, because fossil relationships are unclear even within the human lineage, which is more recent. In fact, the human “family tree” may be better described as a “family bush,” within which it is impossible to connect a full chronological series of species, leading to Homo sapiens, that experts can agree upon. – https://www.britannica.com/science/human-evolution
